Chef Polar – packaging design for semi-finished fish products

When restaurant cuisine goes retail, packaging becomes the primary storyteller. For Chef Polar, we created a design and photography style that brings the excitement of a professional kitchen to the home shelf and helps customers feel like Chefs themselves.

CHALLENGE. Polar SeaFood, a company known for its HoReCa offerings, decided to introduce a line of restaurant-quality prepared fish products to retail. We were tasked with creating a packaging design that would:

– distinguish the product from competitors' prepared fish products,
– inform the customer about preparation methods,
– create the feeling of "home-cooked food, just like in a restaurant,"
– rely on a strong visual language – appetizing product compositions.

CATEGORY CONTEXT. Prepared fish products are one of the fastest-growing categories in retail. However, the prepared fish product niche remained relatively unexploited: selection is limited, design is often bland, and the product's value is unclear. Chef Polar's goal was to fill this niche, building on its reputation as a restaurant supplier and conveying to consumers that "restaurant cuisine is now available at home."

NAMING AND CONCEPT. Chef Polar is a derivative of the manufacturer's brand. It immediately evokes a professional kitchen, emphasizing the product's origins and its "chef's" character. The brand's visual concept is "home cooking with restaurant quality": bright colors, clear composition, high-quality photography, and a strong, appetizing shot.

PRODUCT COMPOSITION. This is a key part of the project. We completely developed the presentation style and conducted a full product photography shoot for the entire product line. For each item:

– individual serving was selected,
– additional ingredients were created to harmonize with the flavors,
– the composition enhanced the SKU color coding,
– the shot acquired depth, flavor, and the atmosphere of a restaurant.

PACKAGING DESIGN. We created a design that works on the shelf in seconds:

– a bright color code allowing flavors to be quickly distinguished,
– appetizing photos in the center of the composition,
– a clean structure emphasizing quality,
– an emphasis on the core value—"a restaurant-quality fish dish at home."

The back of the packaging contains:

– detailed cooking instructions for each fish,
– serving and plating ideas,
– simple instructions that allow even the most inexperienced buyer to achieve excellent results.
